My Most Important Life Lesson!

Hi there! Peyton here! In this blog, I am explaining my most valuable life lesson! Please share your most important life lesson!

Prioritize your mental health above everything! Something that I heard years ago that has always stuck with me is: "no one can make you happy if you cannot make yourself happy." Happiness comes within. If you are not taking care of yourself, how are you going to take care of all of your responsibilities? When I first got my fur baby, Bonnie, I dropped everything to take care of her. Everything in my life shifted and she was my first priority. Instead of teaching her to adapt to my lifestyle, I adapted to hers.

The love I had and have for this dog is more than I can ever explain. She came into my life at a time when I needed her and has truly helped me become a happier person. But in the beginning, it felt like my entire life changed. I wasn't able to do whatever I wanted because I had a dog to take care of. Bonnie is a mini Aussie doodle and she is very high maintenance. She is also a very high-energy dog and if she isn't getting her energy out, she can turn very destructive.

I got to a point where I was changing my life so much to fit her needs better. You do have to adjust when you get a dog but mine was to an unhealthy level where I wouldn't do the things that I wanted to because I wanted to take care of her. My mom eventually told me that I can't change my whole life to fit her, even though I wanted to.

I started taking care of myself more and prioritizing my own happiness above hers. Because if you are going to take care of someone or something, you have to make sure you are taking care of yourself first. And surprisingly, when my life got better, so did hers! I started putting her in daycare to focus on school and work and (of course) myself! Because I did this, I was actually able to have more free time and energy to take care of bonnie the way she deserved to be taken care of.

The moral of the story is you have to take care of yourself first. You have to make sure that you are okay first and then focus on others. Because if you aren't happy, then how are you going to make others happy?

XOXO,

Peyton ♥
