How Social Media and the Internet has affected the Sports Industry

Hi there! Peyton here! Today I am discussing how the internet and social media have affected the sports industry! As always share your opinion! 

    The internet has influenced most of our lives. I am going to be discussing how the internet has influenced the sports industry. The internet has massively affected the sports industry by allowing more and more people to not only watch sports but also keep up with the details of athletes' lives.     

    Because of the fact that sports have been so publicized on the internet, this has created an entirely new career. Now the need for broadcasting sporting events has created jobs, such as camera operators, behind-the-scenes production crews, hosts, sideline reporters, and sports journalists. Because sports is a source of entertainment all over the world there are endless jobs that can be associated with it. The internet has made the sports industry what it is. 

    Athletes are also all over the internet, we hear about their successes, failures, injuries, where they are playing, and we keep up with their lives, families, their journey to sports, and even their mistakes. This has some pretty severe effects. 

    Social media has only elevated this. People take to social media to discuss sports, even trash talk or talk about plays or bad things. And now a lot of information is available at our fingertips. 

    Now with digital and social media almost all sporting games are available to us. Before you had a few options to choose from but with apps like ESPN+ and more, you can watch a variety of games from professional to college. Some sporting events are even available through social media streaming services.

    Athletes make so much more money through social media and public brand deals. There have even been athletes who wear expensive jewelry or specific athletic gear to advertise. The internet has also made it easier to purchase tickets to games and even get rewards in order to save money on future games. 

    Social media and the internet have changed so much of our lives in ways that we might not even think about! It's very interesting and also stressful to think of all the ways that our lives would be so different if the internet and social media didn't exist!
