Advice for Sorority Recruitment!
Hi there! Peyton here! Here is my best advice for ladies going through sorority recruitment! As always share your opinions!
Sorority recruitment can be a scary time. There are so many emotions and feelings and many people skip out on sorority recruitment out of fear but (spoiler alert,) it's not even that bad! Greek life isn't for everyone and that's okay! (#1) But if you are considering it, my first piece of advice is to do it! Even if you end up hating it, at least you tried! Also, you can drop at any time!
(#2) BE YOURSELF! Never pretend to be someone you aren't because you might get into a sorority and realize that it's not the right fit for who you really are!
(#3) Trust the process. You will hear this a lot during recruitment but it's true. You might get dropped from your #1 choice and feel so defeated but just keep going. I actually got dropped from my #1 choice (at the time) and I was so upset and almost dropped out of recruitment, but I kept going, and I found my perfect home in Phi Mu.
(#4) Treat everyone with kindness and respect. Even if you are meeting with a house that you are not interested in, give them your full attention and respect because you could (and probably will) change your mind.
(#5) Once you get into a sorority you have a little bit before you are initiated. If you realize you do not like that sorority, don't get initiated. Because once you are initiated in a sorority, you can never be in a different one. Meaning you can never go through recruitment again and will never have the option to get into a different sorority.
(#6) Try to go into recruitment unbiasedly. Do your best to not worry about top or bottom houses because it really doesn't matter. You want to be in your sorority
because you love it not because it's a top house. You also don't want to get your hopes up for any house.
(#7) Lastly, enjoy it. Don't let anyone define you. You will more than likely get dropped from a few houses. And it can be a really bad feeling but don't get discouraged just keep going. And enjoy the memories and the conversations and go with your gut!
If you are going through recruitment, have the best time! Enjoy it and don't get caught up in the competition of it all. You will go where you are meant to go and if you don't get a bid from a sorority then you weren't meant to be in one! Greek life is not for everyone and it's not a part of everyone's journey and that is okay as long as you are happy!
XOXO,
Peyton ♥
